Katrina*, age 26 was pregnant and living at the Salvation Arm. AIM was able to assist her with a security deposit and first month’s rent as well as furnishing her apartment. We managed to accomplish all this just in time for the baby’s arrival. Mother and child had a lovely home to return to after their discharge from the hospital. Katrina works part time as a Greeting card stocker and her Godmother cares for the baby while Katrina works. Katrina gets monthly supply of household items and on-going case management from staff at AIM.
Maria, age 33 is a single mom with three children ages 9, 11, and 15. For nearly 3 months, the four of them lived separately with different friends, sleeping on a couch or air mattress. While Maria was not at work, she spent every spare minute visiting each of her children. When she finally found a place to rent, AIM stepped in with the first month’s rent and helped to furnish the entire apartment. It was a joyous event now that they are all under the same roof. Luckily, this move-in was accomplished before the start of school.
Karen, age 28 is a single mom with two children ages 6 and 9. They were all living place to place with an occasional motel stay. Karen works full-time as an Assistant Manager at McDonald’s. When she finally found a place, AIM assisted with the deposit and first month’s rent. While bringing the beds into the apartment, her son was overjoyed that he now had a bed of his very own and didn’t have to seep with his Mom. AIM follows up monthly with household items and words of encouragement.
